TCN Announces Power Outages in Abuja for Maintenance Work
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced planned power outages in Abuja this weekend to facilitate critical maintenance at two major transmission substations.
In a statement issued on Saturday, 28 December 2024, Ndidi Mbah, General Manager of Public Affairs at TCN, confirmed that the maintenance work aims to improve the efficiency and reliability of the power infrastructure in the affected areas.
The first phase of the maintenance is scheduled for Saturday, 28 December, between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. During this time, TCN engineers will conduct technical servicing on a 60MVA power transformer and associated switch gears at the Gwagwalada 330/132/33kV Transmission Substation. This activity will require a four-hour disruption of power supply to Gwagwalada and its surrounding communities.
The second phase will take place on Sunday, 29 December 2024, from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., focusing on the servicing of another 60MVA power transformer at the Kukwaba 132/33kV Transmission Substation.
As a result, several areas will be without electricity during this period, including Wuye, EFCC headquarters, Federal Medical Centre, Coca-Cola factory, Idu Railway Station, Citec Estate, and Life Camp.
TCN has assured residents that maintenance is essential for sustaining reliable power delivery and has apologised for any inconvenience caused during this period.
Ndidi Mbah emphasized that these maintenance activities are critical for sustaining the integrity of the power grid and preventing potential system failures. “The scheduled downtime is a necessary step to ensure the continued reliability of our power equipment. These proactive measures will minimise the likelihood of unplanned disruptions and enhance the quality of electricity supply to the public,” she said
