President Tinubu Approves Free Transport Nationwide for Christmas Season
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has authorised free transportation services across Nigeria in the lead-up to the Christmas celebrations.
This announcement was made by the Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, during a briefing with State House correspondents following the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by the President on Monday.
Idris revealed that the Federal Government will implement free nationwide train services, which will run from 20th December 2024 to 5th January 2025, to ease travel for Nigerians during the festive period.
University of Abuja Renamed Yakubu Gowon University
In addition to the transport initiative, the Minister announced that the Federal Government has renamed the University of Abuja as Yakubu Gowon University, in honour of the former Head of State.
2025 Appropriation Bill Focuses on Economic Growth
The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, provided an update on the 2025 Appropriation Bill. He stated that the Federal Executive Council had extensively discussed the proposed budget and expressed optimism that it would stimulate private sector engagement and drive economic growth.
Federal Executive Council Goes on Year-End Recess
Confirming the schedule of government operations, Idris noted that the FEC meeting held on Monday was the final session for 2024. He added that the council will observe a recess from 18th December 2024 to 6th January 2025.
