Nigeria’s Adeyemi-Bero Appointed OPEC Board of Governors Chairman for 2025
In a landmark moment for Nigeria’s influence in the global energy sector, the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) has named Ademola Adeyemi-Bero as Chairman of its Board of Governors for 2025.
OPEC confirmed the appointment during its 189th Conference meeting, as announced on the organisation’s official website.
“The conference appointed Mr Ademola Adeyemi-Bero, Governor of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for OPEC, as Chairman of the Board of Governors for the year 2025, and Eng. Adeeb Al-Aama, Governor of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for OPEC, as Alternate Chairman for the same period,” the statement read.
Before assuming this role, Adeyemi-Bero was confirmed as Nigeria’s OPEC Governor for 2025, further solidifying the country’s standing within the organisation.
Nigeria’s Leadership in Global Energy Recognised
Heineken Lokpobiri, Nigeria’s Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), praised the appointment, calling it a reaffirmation of the nation’s leadership in the global energy space. Lokpobiri highlighted that Adeyemi-Bero’s elevation reflects Nigeria’s significant contributions to the international oil industry.
He stated that the appointment provides Nigeria with a critical platform to advocate for fair energy policies that serve the interests of oil producers, consumers, and the global economy.
Tribute to Outgoing OPEC Governor
The Minister also expressed deep appreciation to Ambassador Gabriel Aduda, Nigeria’s outgoing OPEC Governor, for his exemplary tenure. He acknowledged Aduda’s pivotal role in promoting Nigeria’s interests within OPEC and enhancing the country’s influence in global energy discussions.
Additional OPEC Appointments
OPEC also named Saudi Arabia’s Adeeb Al-Aama as Alternate Chairman of the Board of Governors for 2025. Additionally, Haitham Al Ghais, OPEC’s Secretary General, had his tenure extended for three more years, beginning 1 August 2025.
Member nations applauded Al Ghais for his outstanding leadership and commitment to the organisation’s objectives.
