The Lagos State Government has reiterated the legality of speed limit regulations and urged motorists to comply for the safety of all road users.

The Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, said this in a statement issued on Sunday by the Ministry of Transportation.
Bolanle Ogunlola, Deputy Director of Public Affairs, in the ministry quoted Osiyemi as having said the reaffirmation of the regulation’s legality was in response to public concerns regarding the enforcement of speed limits on selected roads across the state.
He referenced Section 28(2)(a) of the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law (2018), which provides the legal basis for penalising motorists who exceed prescribed speed limits.
Further clarifying traffic sign regulations, Osiyemi stressed that the Ministry of Transportation is solely responsible for determining the size, colour, and type of traffic signs in Lagos.

Relatively, an official of the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) was confirmed dead due to an auto crash in the Ketu axis of the state as a result of reckless driving by a “Korope Bus” It was that the officer was crushed by a commercial minibus that had collided with a parked LAWMA compactor truck while he was performing his duties.
According to the eye witness, the yellow bus number plate is AGL 97 YK, collided with the parked LAWMA truck, resulting to the death and leaving the bus driver with injuries.
On confirmation, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, narrated that the accident occurred on Tuesday morning due to reckless driving on the part of the minibus and carelessness on the part of the parked LAWMA truck, which failed to display its “C-CAUTION” sign.

“Further investigations revealed that in the process of the accident, the minibus hit a LAWMA official performing his lawful duties. Unfortunately, the LAWMA official died before the arrival of the Agency’s Response Teams”.
“However, the driver of the accident minibus popularly known as “Korope” sustained serious injuries but he was given immediate medical attention by Paramedics from the Agency’s Pre-Hospital Care Unit at the incident scene,” he added.
Oke-Osanyintolu further noted that the body of the LAWMA staff has been handed over to officials of the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU) for further processing.
“The Agency’s Lite Towing Truck was deployed to recover the minibus from the road in order to quickly restore free flow of traffic, and the affected LAWMA compactor truck has been recovered to Ketu Police Station,” he added.
