JTF Arrests 39 Oil Thieves, Dismantles illegal Refineries in Rivers State

Troops of the 6 division Nigerian Army have arrested thirty nine suspected oil thieves and dismantled eighteen illegal refining sites in the ongoing crackdown against crude oil theft and other criminal vices in the Niger Delta region.

This was contained in a statement by Lieutenant Colonel Danjuma Jonah, acting Deputy Director of the Nigerian Army public relations.

According to the statement, the operation which was conducted across a joint area along Ochokocho road in Etchie local government area of Rivers state, led to the confiscation of 60,000 liters of stolen products and other items recovered.

Storage tanks of over eighteen thousand liters of stolen crude oil and a truck conveying unquantified quantity of stolen products was also Intercepted as some suspects fled on sighting the troops while others are presently in custody.

The operation also spread across Jelikri creeks in Degema local government area of Rivers state where several illegal refineries sites, drum ovens and metal pipes were destroyed.

Major General Emmanuel Emekah, General Officer Commanding six division Nigerian Army charged the troops to upscale the crackdown against oil thieves and sustain the enabling environment for exploration activities to thrive seamlessly.
