FG Launches NEXT GEN RESCO to Train 60 Youths on Renewable Energy

The Federal Government of Nigeria, through the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), has introduced the NEXT GEN RESCO Programme to secure the future of the renewable energy sector and advance the country’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The initiative was launched in collaboration with the National Power Training Institute of Nigeria (NAPTIN) and the Ecological Innovation Empowerment Initiative (EIEI).

According to the partners, the programme aims to bridge the skills gap in the renewable energy industry by equipping young leaders with the technical expertise required to thrive in Nigeria’s rapidly expanding clean energy sector.

A statement from the organisers highlighted, “Applications are now open to young Nigerians for this 12-month programme, offering 60 successful candidates the chance to gain high-quality industry knowledge, learn from experts, and connect with key stakeholders in the energy sector.”

Over the past eight months, the REA has been instrumental in transforming Nigeria’s clean energy ecosystem, spearheading the Federal Government’s approach to scaling up renewable energy projects across the country.

The REA noted that as the nation intensifies efforts to optimise renewable energy for growth and sustainable development, it has continued to advocate for better governance among private-sector players to deliver efficient and sustainable services.

This is being achieved through the Renewable Energy Service Companies (RESCOs) initiative, which prioritises technical, analytical, and leadership excellence to sustain a private-sector-driven ecosystem.

The REA further explained that its collaborative efforts with Renewable Energy Service Companies have fostered private-sector engagement, leading to improved service delivery and investment in innovation, research, and development.

Upon completing the year-long programme, participants of the NEXT GEN RESCO initiative will be well-positioned to secure active roles in private-sector renewable energy companies, leveraging the skills acquired during the programme to drive growth and innovation in the sector.

The programme is set to provide participants with comprehensive training in renewable energy systems and leadership development. It will also include hands-on experience with industry-leading companies, networking opportunities with key professionals, and internships that address real-world challenges in Nigeria’s renewable energy landscape.

To promote inclusivity, the organising agencies have outlined eligibility criteria for applicants. Graduates with a minimum CGPA of 3.5 and no more than two years of post-graduation experience are encouraged to apply. Strong leadership and interpersonal skills are prioritised, with a particular emphasis on encouraging female applicants. Additionally, candidates currently serving in Abuja are eligible to participate.
