Dangote Set to Expand Export of Refined Products Across Africa, Target Brazilian Market

Aliko Dangote, President of Dangote Petroleum Refinery, announced that the refinery will provide refined products like petrol, diesel, and aviation fuel to both the Nigerian market and other African countries once it is fully operational.

Speaking at the Africa CEO Forum in Kigali, Rwanda, on Friday, Dangote stated that the 650,000 barrels per day (bpd) refinery can meet local demands and export refined products to other African nations.

Africa’s wealthiest man assured that the refinery would produce enough gasoline, diesel, and aviation fuel to supply the entire African continent and also export to Brazil.

“We started producing jet fuel, we are producing diesel, and by next month, we’ll be producing gasoline. What that will do, is it will be able to take most African crudes.

“Our capacity is too big for Nigeria. It will be able to supply West Africa, Central Africa, and also Southern Africa,” Dangote told the panel.

According to the richest man in Africa, the next phase of the refinery will start early next year.

Deal with TotalEnergies

Chief Executive Officer of TotalEnergies, Patrick Pouyanne, announced that the company secured a deal to supply crude oil to Dangote’s $20 billion refinery.

Pouyanne shared with a panel that he met with Aliko Dangote, Africa’s richest man, and successfully persuaded him to accept the deal.

“The two CEOs met with our head of trading and we found the way to convince them to make a deal,” he added.

TotalEnergies ranks among the leading crude producers in Nigeria, alongside Shell and ExxonMobil.
