Dangote Refinery Would Propel Africa Out of Poverty – AU

Mohamed Ibn Chambas, a distinguished diplomat and the African Union High Representative for Silencing the Guns, has hailed the Dangote Refinery, with its capacity of 650,000 barrels per day, as a transformative initiative that could help lift Africa out of poverty.

The Chairman of the African Union High-Level Panel on Sudan made this remark during his recent visit to the Dangote Refinery, located in Ibeju Lekki, Lagos State.

Chambas highlighted that the state-of-the-art refinery reflects Aliko Dangote’s visionary leadership, Nigerian ingenuity, and African entrepreneurial spirit. He stressed that the Dangote Group is setting a benchmark for the private sector in Africa.

“These transformational projects, such as the Dangote Refinery, are crucial for Africa’s economic growth. They generate jobs, boost both national and regional economies, and provide more affordable and stable fuel for transport, agriculture, and industry.

“In essence, they fuel the real economy. The Dangote Group is at the forefront of Africa’s private sector, which has a vital role in combating poverty and creating opportunities for young people. This is a genuine step towards silencing the guns,” he said.

The former president of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) lauded Aliko Dangote for his “business savvy, boldness, perseverance, and vision,” all of which were instrumental in bringing this massive project to fruition. He acknowledged that Dangote has firmly established himself as a leading figure in Africa’s private sector.

Ibn Chambas also expressed his appreciation for President Bola Tinubu’s efforts in ensuring a steady supply of crude oil to the Dangote Refinery. “I also wish to commend President Bola Tinubu for his decisive and clear-cut decision to guarantee a continuous and reliable flow of Nigerian crude oil to the Dangote Refinery.

“As a successful businessman with a strong track record in the private sector, Tinubu is well aware of the challenges.

“He has shown a dedication to fostering a conducive business climate in Nigeria and supporting the smooth functioning of the refinery.

“I urge all Africans, both on the continent and in the diaspora, to visit the Dangote Refinery for a firsthand experience.

“A visit to the refinery reveals the vast potential and optimism, not only for Nigeria but for the entire African continent,” he added.
