86 Dead, 55 Injured in Niger State Tanker Explosion — NSEMA
The Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) has confirmed that at least 86 people tragically lost their lives in a tanker explosion at Dikko Junction along the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway. The incident occurred on Saturday, 18 January 2025, in Gurara Local Government Area of Niger State.
According to Abdullahi Baba Arah, the agency’s Director General, all victims’ remains have been recovered and appropriately buried.
He revealed that 80 victims were interred in a mass grave at the Dikko Primary Health Care Centre, while five were handed over to their families for burial in their hometowns. One person succumbed to injuries at the healthcare facility.
The mass burial was organised by NSEMA in collaboration with the Gurara Local Government Area and local volunteers. The process took place on the same day, between 5:00 pm and midnight.
Arah further noted that 55 individuals sustained injuries in the explosion and are currently receiving medical treatment.
